Last year, WhatsApp began transferring chats from iPhones to Android phones, beginning with Samsung phones. All Android 12 phones ultimately got the functionality.
Now, the social media giant is putting it to the test the
other way around, allowing you to transfer conversations from Android to iOS
devices. Today is the first day of public beta testing for the feature.
If you want to transfer WhatsApp conversations between an
Android phone and an iPhone, you'll need to meet the following requirements:
- WhatsApp (Android) 2.22.7.74 or later, Android 5 (Lollipop) or later.
- WhatsApp (iOS) 2.22.10.70 or later. iOS 15.5, WhatsApp (iOS) 2.22.10.70 or later.
- The phone number is the same as before.
- Only possible during the iPhone's first setup.
Apple's Move to iOS software is used to complete the
transfer, and both phones must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network (Wi-Fi
hotspots work too). The phones must also be connected to a power source.
It's worth noting that following the transfer, the data on
the Android phone will not be automatically deleted, but you may do it
manually. There will be no transmission of WhatsApp call history or
peer-to-peer payment messages.
More information is available on WhatsApp's official guide,
which also includes a troubleshooting page if you run into any issues.
Keep in mind that the function is currently in testing, so
it won't be available to the general public for a time.
