iPhone 14 Release Date

Apple's new iPhones might offer the largest improvements in years, according to iPhone 14 speculations. According to the reports, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a sleeker new design, a speedier A16 Bionic CPU, a sharper new primary camera, and maybe USB-C.

The iPhone 14 Pro models are likely to receive the most significant updates, but the normal iPhone 14 lineup might also see significant changes, with the small expected to be replaced by a new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max.

In other words, it's simple to understand why the iPhone 14 is one of the phones we're most looking forward to in 2022. Here's what we know so far about the iPhone 14, why it'll be one of Apple's most important products in 2022, and what we want to see from the new flagships.

The most recent iPhone 14 Rumours (Updated April 21)

According to one leaker, the iPhone 14 Pro variants are unlikely to receive USB-C.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, under-display cameras and Face ID will not be available until the iPhone 16 in 2024.

The front camera on all new iPhone 14 models might be enhanced, with autofocus and a larger aperture.

The iPhone 14 might be released as early as this year.

When is the iPhone 14 coming out?

We haven't heard anything about an iPhone 14 release date. However, based on recent Apple iPhone announcement events, the iPhone 14 is expected to arrive in September 2022.

The iPhone 14 is undergoing engineering validation testing (EVTs), according to the newest rumour, indicating that the design has been rectified since the iPhone 14 went into trial production in February. These testing will determine if the new models meet Apple's stringent requirements.

It's also difficult to anticipate the cost. However, we expect the iPhone 14 will be priced similarly to the iPhone 13, which starts at $799 for the standard model and $999 for the iPhone 13 Pro. However, there may be no iPhone 14 small at all, thus a bigger 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max with a price of $899 seems likely.

The iPhone 14 Pro might cost $999 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max could cost $1,099 or more after that.

But there's a catch: according to LeaksApplePro, three of the four iPhone 14 versions are said to be seeing a price increase.

The original iPhone 14 is likely to remain at $799, while the bigger iPhone 14 Max is slated to retail for $899. However, the iPhone 14 Pro might cost $1,099, a $100 premium above the $999 iPhone 13 Pro. The iPhone 14 Pro Max may also see a price rise, reaching $1,199. Anyone wanting to get their hands on a high-end next-generation iPhone 14 will be hit hard by this huge price increase at launch.

iPhone mini replaced by iPhone 14 Max

Despite the alleged dismal sales of the iPhone 12 small, Apple introduced an iPhone 13 mini alongside the other iPhone 13 models last autumn. However, the small might be phased out after then, as Apple is rumoured to be reorganizing its iPhone 14 range for 2022. Along with the ordinary 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a bigger iPhone 14 Plus or Max might be released. As a result, there will be two iPhone 14 models with regular-sized screens and two iPhone 14 models with bigger screens.

This was further supported by leaker Jon Prosser, who stated that the iPhone 14 Max will be a substitute for a tiny phone, with a 6.7-inch display but no pro features and consequently a high price tag. Given the demand for bigger phones, a huge but more cheap iPhone might be just what iPhone enthusiasts are looking for.

Another leaker claims that the iPhone 14 will be available in two variants, the standard and the Max. The iPhone 14 Max, in our opinion, will be a game-changer for Apple, and its rumoured release should make Apple's competitors worried.

The removal of the iPhone 13 small isn't the only significant difference between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13. All of the major speculated differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 can be found in our iPhone 14 versus iPhone 13 comparison.

The iPhone 11 will most likely be phased out of Apple's phone range in the autumn as a result of the iPhone 14's release. It's unclear if both iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini models will remain.

iPhone 14 Design

According to Jon Prosser's Front Page Tech video, the iPhone 14 will resemble a hybrid between an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 4, with flat sides. However, those borders might incorporate a mute button and a series of circular volume centre buttons, reminiscent of the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 14's sides are rumored to be constructed of titanium, making it harder and stronger than prior iPhones, while the rear retains the glass surface but seems to have a satin-like sheen.

Some schematics depict the iPhone 14 Pro models, with the elevated camera array on the iPhone 14 Pro being much larger and Ming-Chi Kuo suggesting that a bigger module is required to house a 48MP camera, the basic iPhone 14 is unlikely to feature a set of cameras flush with its back panel.

According to a few reports, the iPhone 14 will be the last iPhone to ditch the notch. However, it appears that only the iPhone 14 Pro will be notch-free, with a mix of a single circular camera cutout and a pill-shaped cutout alongside it for Face ID sensors.

However, the basic iPhone 14 is no longer anticipated to eliminate the notch, with rumours claiming that by 2023, the whole iPhone line would be notch-free.

Display

The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to be shaken up, with a normal iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro sporting a 6.1-inch display and a probable iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max sporting a 6.7-inch display. So there will be no more 5.4-inch minis.

According to Shadow Leaks, the iPhone 14 will have a 6.08-inch (rounded up to 6.1-inch) display, while the iPhone 14 Max will have a 6.68-inch panel (rounded up to 6.7 inches). The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max have the same screen size.

Given that the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max feature a 120Hz refresh rate display, it would be fantastic if all iPhone 14 models had one as well, most likely utilising an LTPO panel or a variant of that technology.

According to a new supply chain report, the iPhone 14 Max, also known as the iPhone 14 Plus, would include a 120Hz refresh rate display. In this scenario, LG is said to be the screen manufacturer, however it's unknown if the normal iPhone 14 will gain a higher refresh rate or stick to 60Hz.

According to The Elec, at least one iPhone 14 model will include an LTPS display, implying that the 60Hz panel will remain. Following supply chain rumours, it appears that the regular iPhone 14 will be without a fast-refreshing display.

Another rumour indicates that the iPhone 14 and 14 Max might have refresh rates of 90Hz. This would be a step up over the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, but it wouldn't step on the Pro model's quicker screens.

Given that an always-on display was rumoured for the iPhone 13 but never made it into the current iPhone, it would seem natural for the iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 Touch ID

The reintroduction of Touch ID is one of the most noticeable differences between the iPhone 14 and its predecessors. Instead of being built into a power button, the fingerprint sensor is expected to be buried beneath the iPhone 14's display, similar to how many fingerprint sensors on the top Android phones are.

However, the jury is still out on whether or not this is true. Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo believes it will be a few years before an iPhone with Touch ID or under-display Face ID is released. This would have been a huge letdown, because having an option to Face ID is really useful during these mask-wearing times.

However, with iOS 15.4, Apple has made Face ID capable of recognizing a genuine person even while they are wearing a mask. It performs admirably, implying that Apple may have eliminated the requirement for fingerprint-based authentication.

Camera

We're starting to hear more about the iPhone 14 cameras, and the speculation is starting to heat up. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro models would have a 48MP primary sensor, which would be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 13's 12MP camera. The 48MP primary camera speculation is backed up by TrendForce, a Taiwanese research organization, implying that megapixels are once again important to Apple – at least when it comes to the company's Pro phones.

Another tipter, however, has refuted this report, claiming that the iPhone 14 Pro, and hence the iPhone 14 series, would not include a 48MP camera. Instead, according to the source, Apple will stay with the same 12MP sensors used in the iPhone 13 series.

Nonetheless, a larger primary sensor will be good, but we're especially eager in a better telephoto lens, as the iPhone currently behind the Samsung Galaxy S21 in this department. In fact, it would be cool if Apple took a page from the Galaxy S21 Ultra's book and included a secondary telephoto camera with a 10x optical zoom.

According to one Apple patent, the company is working on a periscope-style zoom camera, which might appear on the iPhone 14, or at the very least the Pro variants. Ming-Chi Kuo, on the other hand, now claims that the periscope camera will not come until the iPhone 15 in 2023.

Another iPhone 14 camera suggestion comes from Kuo, this time regarding the front camera. The front camera on the iPhone 14 is expected to include autofocus and a larger aperture (f/1.9 vs. f/2.2 on the current iPhone). FaceTime conversations should be sharper with autofocus, and selfies in low light will benefit from the larger aperture. The enhancements to the front camera would apply to all iPhone 14 models, not just the Pro variants.
