Google is launching its core May 2022 algorithm update.

On May 25, 2022, Google will release a major algorithm upgrade. It will take about two weeks to complete the rollout.

A broad core algorithm change, dubbed the May 2022 core update, is rolling out today, according to Google.

The core improvements are intended to improve the relevancy of search results for users. Despite the fact that the update is available now, it will take 1-2 weeks to fully roll out.

Changes in site performance in search results are to be expected, according to Danny Sullivan, Google's Public Liaison for Search.

"We make core adjustments to improve Search generally and keep up with the evolving nature of the web." While there is nothing special to any one site in a core upgrade, these modifications may cause some visible changes in how sites run..."

When a major update is released, Google is notorious for referring to the same 2019 guidance.

Nothing has changed in that regard, as Google still refers to the same document for this update.

To summarise, Google's general recommendations for core updates are as follows:

  • Expect widespread repercussions, such as increases or decreases in search rankings.
  • Core updates are "wide" in that they don't focus on a single issue. Rather, they're intended to improve Google's entire systems.
  • Pages that lose rankings aren't penalised; instead, they're appraised against other web material published since the prior update.
  • The easiest method to deal with the impact of a core algorithm update is to focus on creating the greatest possible content.
  • Every few months, the core is updated. Some sites may not be able to recover from one update until the next one is released.
  • Improvements do not imply that the situation will improve. Choosing not to make any changes, on the other hand, will almost certainly result in no recovery.

The most recent Google core update, which was released in November 2021, has been six months.

Those who have been hard at work on their site over that time may notice some substantial changes in their search rankings.

Those who have let their site remain dormant, on the other hand, may find themselves outranked by sites with more relevant content.

However, it's too early to gauge the impact because this update will take a week or more to go out.

It's possible that your rankings will alter during this period, so don't be surprised if you notice changes immediately away.

When Google has confirmed that the update has completed its rollout, you can begin your analysis.
